Getting a Share code just got harder

After October 2024, the rules for obtaining a SHARE CODE have changed and things have become much more difficult.

The reason - thousands abused the status applications. The government released these status applications in 2019 in order to allow people who are eligible for status to apply for it. Also, while waiting for the decision so that Islanders were not disadvantaged, they were given a share code which gave them similar rights to people who have status. This code entitles you to a job, accommodation, a bank account, training...

After October 2024, the way to get a share code is to run a separate application or an application to join someone and have that application accepted for consideration. To be declared valid.

The moment you launch an application and it is reviewed and deemed valid, you receive an email with a letter called COA and you can now issue the desired share code.

Below are the two options where you can get share code:

  • Option 1 - stand-alone application.

For the application to be valid and for you to receive a sher code if you are applying on the basis of independent residence, you must have been in the UK before 31/12/2020.

If you have been before this date for less than 5 years, you must not have been out of the UK for more than 6 months. If you have been absent from the country for between 6 and 12 months, in some cases this absence may also be honoured. So you must also have a valid reason for applying after the deadline.

If you've NEVER BEEN TO THE UK BEFORE 31/12/2020, you can't run the application and get a share code.

  • Option 2 - joining a close relative in the immediate line.

People who have relatives with status in the UK, if they meet a bunch of conditions, are also able to get a sherry code and possibly status. The first condition is that they must be related by direct descent. These are children, parents, spouses, grandparents, great grandparents, grandchildren and great grandchildren and partners with whom you are cohabiting. These people must also have been close family members to you before 31/12/2020 and still be related to you. Also of great importance is whether these people have come to the UK, when this was and whether they have had any unsuccessful applications for share code/status.

THERE ARE NO OTHER WAYS TO GET A SHARE CODE ANYMORE!
