Registering for British citizenship for children under 18

To be eligible, children must meet one of the following requirements and be recognised by the Home Office:

• Children born in the UK, under the age of 18, whose parent(s) are either British citizens or have permanent status; or the children have lived in the UK for the last 10 years.
• Children born outside the UK under the age of 18 in any of the following circumstances:

1.  whose parent(s) are British citizens by descent;
2. the children and at least one parent have lived legally in the UK for 5 years and have had settled status for 1 year.
3. the children have lived in the UK for the last 10 years and have no criminal record

• Children born in the UK before 1 July 2006 whose parents were not married at the time of their birth but have legalised parental rights over the child and are lawfully resident in the country or are British citizens.

How much will it cost you?

The state registration fee is £1214.

Our service starts at £450 but depends on the complexity of the case. Discounts are available for more children in a family. For example, for two children our fee is £770.

Once we receive your application or order, we will let you know how to pay.

If you would like us to rectify a previous application of yours that has been refused, our cost is £100 more – from £550.

What is the timeframe for receiving the document?

We trigger the procedure within 5 days of receiving your details via the completed form.

The timeframe for receiving a decision from the Home Office is 6 months.
