Britain is registering a record number of immigrants who remained in the Kingdom.
We immigrants, as you know, were one of the reasons Brexit happened. Despite expectations, however, after Brexit, immigration has not decreased; in fact, it has increased.
In the last months, the government has been doing everything possible to reduce the number of people coming and remaining in the Kingdom. Stricter requirements have been introduced for family and work visas, and since October there have been stricter rules on which settled status application will be accepted as valid and possibly given a sher code and status.
Yesterday, on 28.11, the BBC published the latest estimate of net migration to the UK provided by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Net migration to the UK was 906,000 in the year up to June 2023 - far higher than previous estimates
About 1.3 million people came to live in the UK in this period, while 414,000 people left
Net migration - the difference between the number of people leaving and arriving - then fell to 728,000 in the 12 months to June 2024
Pressed on what would be an acceptable net migration figure, Starmer declines to put a figure on it - but says he wants it cut "significantly"
All this means that if it is really important to you to get settled status, you should be very careful not to make any mistakes when applying.
The services have changed the requirements in such a way that a mistake in applying for status can make it impossible to apply and attempt a new application.
See our service "Completing or correcting your status application”.
In my opinion now, if one is not very familiar with the immigration requirements, the chance of the authorities accepting an application for status is pretty low.
It is up to each individual to decide how important it is to them to make things happen and whether to risk going through the procedure themselves or to use the services of an immigration adviser or lawyer.
If you decide to apply on your own, but your application fails and you then seek help from a specialist, things may already be much more difficult, complicated, expensive and in some cases even impossible.
Most people who have not personally faced problems along the new requirements will think I am writing this just to advertise myself.
Everyone is allowed to think what they want, I'm just sharing what is happening.
